The game was said to be out in "early 2013" before planned publisher THQ went bankrupt.
The main campaign will be set on the Eastern Front where the player will take control of the Red Army, with a heavy emphasis on Order 227: "Not a step back". Unlike the first game, Company of Heroes 2's campaign spans several years of World War II, from 1941 (when Russia and the USA entered the war) to 1945. It is powered by the Essence 3.0 Engine which allows for more details and environmental destruction.
It will in many ways be a direct sequel, with not many changes to the core gameplay. Company of Heroes 2 is Relic Entertainment's sequel to its acclaimed real-time strategy game Company of Heroes.
